LZProject

Yesterday Laszlo Systems released LZProject, an OpenLaszlo 4 blueprint application, which basically demonstrates OpenLaszlo’s features in the form of a really simple project management application, which can easily deployed into an existing tomcat installation (like the presentation server run’s on).

IMO, it’s not a bad example. Although i would call it a task management application rather than a project management application, as the only thing’s you can do are:

  • Create projects (no editing!).
  • Create and delete tasks with deadlines assigned to projects (no editing, apart from you can “finish” them).
  • Create, edit, and delete users.
  • Be reminded of overdue tasks by a conveniently located box in the dashboard.
  • Flip between English, German, and Korean languages at the click of a button.
  • Choose between a Flash and DHTML based interface (useful if you don’t have or like Flash).

…and oddly enough, there is no way to only view tasks assigned to a single project (even though it is technically possible), so you always end up seeing them all.

Ok, so it’s not the next killer project management app, but it’s still an interesting example. If anyone is interested in using OpenLaszlo now or in the future, i’d recommend you try it out.
